The FishWise retail program translates the best available fishery, aquaculture, and health science into a comprehensive program that results in improved sourcing, customer service, and sales. Member retailers communicate publicly their commitment to sustainability and transparency, and improve their product mix over time. They are often at the forefront of new product offerings and consumer education techniques, and demonstrate to larger and more conventional businesses that sustainable seafood makes good business sense.

Target Corporation, a growing supplier of groceries in North America, is guided by their commitments to great value, the community, diversity and the environment. They recognize that seafood sustainability is an important part of this commitment. Target has partnered with FishWise to develop policies and procedures to meet growing demand with sustainable product - ultimately ensuring a long-term supply of seafood. Target has committed to a comprehensive sustainability program with the ultimate goal of transitioning all fresh and frozen products to environmentally-friendly sources, or to sources that are in credible improvements projects, by 2015. This program will include staff training, consumer education, and sourcing improvement plans. Target has already established itself as a leader and made significant commitments to sustainable seafood, such as removing all unsustainable net-pen farmed salmon and Chilean seabass from their inventory last year. In 2011, Target tied for second place on the Greenpeace Seafood Retailer Scorecard.

Safeway Inc., one of the nation's largest grocery retailers, is committed to pursuing growth through leadership in environmental, socially responsible and ethical business practices. By teaming up with FishWise, Safeway is applying this promise to oceans and fishing communities by implementing a comprehensive five-year sustainable seafood program.

Bi-Rite Market of San Francisco strives to provide restaurant quality prepared foods and catering, organic produce, sustainably raised meats, poultry, and seafood, as well as fine wines and everyday groceries to its customers. Bi-Rite specializes in gourmet foods and is highly committed to sustainability. This commitment is demonstrated in its seafood department through a long, healthy partnership with FishWise.

BriarPatch Co-op is a cooperatively owned business and the leading natural food store in Nevada County, CA. BriarPatch seeks to be a leader in social, environmental, as well as fiscal business responsibility and is committed to being a community resource. Selling healthy, sustainably produced food is a core objective of the co-op, and their partnership with FishWise ensures that all fresh seafood in the store is labeled according to credible sustainability criteria.

Co-op Food Stores, with two locations in New Hampshire (Lebanon and Hanover) and one location in Vermont (White River Junction) is one of the oldest and most successful consumer cooperatives in the country. The Co-op Food Stores actively promote sustainable agriculture and work closely with local farmers, bakers, fishermen, and other companies. They also have one of the most extensive fresh seafood cases in the country and collaborate with FishWise to ensure they offer the most sustainable seafood choices to their customers.

Davis Food Co-op of Davis, CA is a member-owned full-line supermarket with an emphasis on health and sustainability. It specializes in natural, organic, bulk, ethnic, and gourmet foods. Davis Food Co-op began a partnership with FishWise in 2004 in order to better provide sustainable seafood to their customers.

Good Earth Market of Fairfax, CA has the mission to provide the finest natural and organic foods available on the market to its customers. Since 1969, Good Earth has been committed to offering the local community access to a range of organic foods grown and prepared using a minimum of processing and no chemical pesticides or food additives. Good Earth Market was one of the first FishWise partners and continues to utilize the FishWise program to encourage sustainable consumer choices in their seafood purchases.

Metcalfe's Market is a locally owned and operated market with locations at Hilldale Mall in Madison and in the heart of downtown Wauwatosa. In its 93-year history, Metcalfe's Market has led the way in environmental practices, including a Food Miles program and going to 100% green power. Metcalfe's Market furthered their commitment to a more sustainable Wisconsin by becoming a FishWise partner in 2010, and is now a leader in the sustainable seafood movement in the Great Lakes region. Natural Grocery Company, based in El Cerrito, CA is highly committed to offering a wide range of all natural and organic products to its customers. Natural Grocery has worked very hard to reach a point where it solely sells organic fruits and vegetables in its produce department. Meats are sourced from natural producers using systems such as free range, certified organic, and grass fed. Natural Grocery was one of the first FishWise partners and continues to utilize the FishWise program to encourage sustainable consumer choices in their seafood purchases.

New Frontiers Natural Marketplace is a natural food retailer operating in Central California and Arizona. It emphasizes healthy and environmentally products such as organic produce, natural, organic and grass fed meats, as well as sustainable seafood products.

New Leaf Markets are full-service natural food stores specializing in local and organic products. There are six stores located throughout Santa Cruz County. New Leaf is an independent company and the first grocer to partner with FishWise, a continuing five-year commitment to sustainable seafood. New Leaf is one of very few markets in the entire country to not sell any seafood deemed unsustainable by the FishWise and the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch Program.

Nugget Markets is a nine-store supermarket chain in the greater Sacramento area. Although the company has grown in recent years, Nugget is committed to the same principles that founders Mack and William were when they started the business: high-quality products and low prices. Nugget has not only demonstrated its commitment to sustainable seafood through its FishWise partnership, but also as leader in social responsibility by being deemed one of the nation’s Top 10 Places to Work by Fortune Magazine. Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op originated as a food buying club in 1972 and opened a storefront of primarily bulk foods in downtown Sacramento. Since then the coop has grown dramatically and evolved into a full service store offering gourmet, specialty, and organic products. The coop demonstrates its commitment to sustainability with programs like FishWise while being dedicated to the local community through shared ownership and the operation of its Community Learning Center.

Surf Supermarket is a high-end specialty grocer in the Gualala area of Northern California. Since 2006, Surf Supermarket has been working with FishWise in an effort to strengthen the retailer's commitment to sustainability and ocean conservation.

Berkshire Co-op Market has been a FishWise partner since late 2011 and is the first in Massachusetts. Located in Great Barrington, Berkshire Co-op Market is dedicated to an all-natural, whole food, local and healthy approach to grocery shopping. Their partnership with FishWise ensures that all items in the seafood case are responsibly sourced, with the goal of maintaining healthy oceans and fish populations for generations to come.
